Isao Takahata was an animation director who regrettably passed away in April 2018. A retrospective exhibition about his activities entitled “Takahata Isao: A Legend in Japanese Animation” is currently being held at the National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo.
This exhibition constantly follows the trajectory of Takahata’s exploration of contemporary themes and his thorough pursuit of new ways of expression and the trajectory of his creativity.
The exhibition focuses on the direction by Takahata, who did not himself make drawings. in addition to showing never before seen materials such as production notes and storyboards, the exhibition brings to light the his interaction with other creators and the process of cooperative production.

2018年4月に惜しまれながらこの世を去ったアニメーション監督・高畑勲。その活動を総覧する展覧会「高畑勲展―日本のアニメーションに遺したもの」が、東京国立近代美術館で開催されています。
本展は、常に今日的なテーマを模索し、新しい表現方法を徹底して追求した高畑の創造の軌跡をたどるもの。絵を描かない高畑の「演出」というポイントに注目し、未発表の制作ノートや絵コンテなどの資料を公開するほか、他のクリエイターたちとの交流や共同制作の過程を明らかにしています。
